Press Release: With the Assistance of the US Government, CODRU-ST Becomes the First Moldovan Company to Meet European Export Standards

December 19, 2006

The European fresh fruit and vegetable market is a critical export destination for Moldovan agricultural companies. To access this market, Moldovan producers must go through the challenging undertaking of meeting European quality and food safety requirements. This requires large investments, a high level of business culture, and change in approach on behalf of the company and its employees. CODRU-ST proves that this is not an impossible task as it becomes the first Moldovan company to receive the EUREPGAP® certificate.

The Agribusiness Development Project (ADP), financed by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Citizens Network for Foreign Affairs (CNFA) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) and CODRU-ST will hold a Certification Ceremony for the award of the first-ever EUREPGAP® certificate to a Moldovan company on December 20, 11:00am, at the Conference Room of MAFI. Mass Media are invited to attend.

EUREPGAP® is a food safety standard required by exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables entering major EU export markets. EUREPGAP® standards are designed to ensure and demonstrate that Western European Food Safety requirements have been implemented and maintained by the grower. EUREPGAP® standards were written by major European retailers and buying organizations, and are recognized and implemented by growers worldwide. CODRU-ST implemented EUREPGAP® requirements with the assistance of Moldovan consultants, who were trained by the USAID ADP project.
